"As we believe in pushing fundamental reforms in governance, we endorse Casiño as senator as he advances and upholds the interest of the peasant sector and the toiling masses," he added.
The group said that the commemoration of the People Power uprising should be focused on the actual struggle of the Filipino people to oust the Marcos dictatorship and restoring democracy, and not on those ruling clique who benefitted such as the Cojuangco-Aquinos.
Amgl and Anakpawis - Central Luzon support Casiño's advancement of the House Bill 374 or the Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill (GARB) and the repeal of Republic Act 9700 or the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with "Reforms" (CARPer), House Bill 4315 or the People's Mining Bill, P125 across the board wage increase bill, the removal of value-added tax on power, oil and toll fees, the repeal of the oil deregulation law and other legislation on the promotion of the people's interests.
"Casiño is the only candidate who is genuinely different and for fundamental reforms, in contrast with those who are traditional politicians, belonging to political dynasties and mainstream political parties such as the Liberal Party (LP) and United Nationalist Alliance (UNA)," Canlas said.
The groups said that Casiño's track record is unblemished of corruption, pro-people, nationalist and for democracy and human rights. Casiño is also promoting "buy Filipino," as advancement of the interests of small and medium entrepreneurs and nationalist industrialization. Casiño's People's Mining Bill also protects the rights of indigenous people against land grabbing by mining corporations.
Amgl and Anakpawis - Central Luzon also urged the farmers in the region not to vote LP candidates Risa Hontiveros and Bam Aquino, and UNA candidate Margarita "Tingting" Cojuangco. The groups said that Hontiveros who is from Akbayan is a staunch ally of the Cojuangco-Aquinos and the prime proponent of CARPer. Hontiveros opposed GARB that provisions free land distribution and nationalization of agricultural lands while Akbayan mislead farmers into applying for CARPer, where in turn, they are obliged amortization, though they are the legitimate owners of their lands. Regarding Aquino and Cojuangco, the groups said that they are simply capitalizing on the Cojuangco-Aquino political dynasty and definitely would work against land reform, such as opposing the distribution of Hacienda Luisita to the farmworkers.
"With the idealism People Power, we call on the people of Central Luzon to free themselves of traditional politics and move towards fundamental change. These political dynasties and traditional politicians are the very cause of graft and corruption, absence of social services and our poverty and misery. This coming elections, we should decide to put candidates who would serve our legitimate and democratic interests," Canlas said. #
